120km’s of 11kV Refurbishment Overhead Lines Work at Llwydiarth Hall Farm in Mid-Wales.

Due to the location of works within the valleys and challenging terrain, mobile telephone reception was extremely poor, therefore it was necessary to operate using satellite telephones and multi-channelled radio system in order to maintain adequate contact with staff and Scottish Power Energy Networks during essential generation and construction.

Dutton Contractors Ltd recently replaced a rotten pole within the private network of a multinational company using innovative techniques to ensure minimal disruption. Using our specialist plant and overhead line expertise, we were able to safely lift and suspend the power line whilst the rotten pole was replaced. Our service included: 

• Provision of fully authorised Overhead Linesmen, Specialist Plant Teams, Machinery and Support Staff and full on site Health and Safety supervision
• Refurbishment and maintenance of existing overhead lines 
• Rectification of rotten pole safety issue

 SP Power Systems ESQCR Low Ground Clearance Project (working in partnership with Enterprise PLC)

SP Power Systems ESQCR Low Ground Clearance Project

Dutton Contractors Ltd are currently working on behalf of Enterprise PLC and Scottish Power Power Systems (SPPS) as part of an ongoing project to maintain and upgrade the overhead line network across the North West and Wales.

The scheme includes:

• Provision of fully authorised Overhead Linesmen, Cable Jointers, EBR/Civils Teams and Support Staff in a multimillion pound maintenance scheme dealing with over 9000 low ground clearance issues.
• Refurbishment and maintenance of existing overhead lines 
• Rectification of low ground clearances and other related issues
• Full logistical support, including cable handling, removal of existing lines, full traffic management and out of hours customer liasons across the North West and Wales.
• Complete resource management of multiple teams working in different locations and in diverse weather and ground conditions.

A close relationship had to be built with Enterprise PLC along with other resources involved with the contract to ensure all their safety and security requirements were followed to ensure minimal disturbance to the customers afflicted by these works.   

SHELL Sites 33kV Reinforcement U/G Project

SHELL Sites 33kV Reinforcement U/G Project

Dutton Contractors successfully completed a scheme consisting of the excavation, installation, backfill and permanent reinstatement of approximately 3km of 2 x 33kV XLPE 150mm Single Core Cable laid in trefoil, 2 x 19 pair Telecommunications Cables and 2 x 4 core Pilot Cable through agreed new cable route including: 

• Provision of CDM Management as Principal Contractor
• All NRSWA opening ground notices
• Full Excavation, Installation, Backfill and Permanent Reinstatement of intermediate and loop-in feeder and auxiliary cable joint bays 
• Jointing on all 33kV, Pilot and Telecommunications Cables
• Full cable handling from SPEN stores to site and return
• Full Traffic Management associated with works including SHELL Oil, Network Rail, Quinn Glass, private landowners and NRSWA Public Requirements.
• Fully Integrated Solutions for Network Rail Bridge Crossings including liason and agreement with both bridge owners
• Full Provision of As-Built Cable Records to be submitted before feeder commissioning.

A close relationship had to be built with Shell to ensure all their safety and security requirements for the refinery site were followed to ensure minimal disturbance to the site. Dutton Contractors carried out all onsite jointing and assisted SPEN in the Pilot Cable Fault finding before commissioning.

Stublach Gas Storage Facility

Dutton Contractors Ltd are currently installing a Cathodic Protection system at Storengy’s Stublach Gas Storage Facility near Middlewich, Cheshire, which will store 400 million tonnes of natural gas at full capacity.

• Excavation, backfilling and reinstatement of Ground Beds
• Laying and connections of Anodes
• Connection of Wellheads to SMC

As of October 2009 Dutton Contractors have also been awarded an ongoing contract for the continued maintenance of the full Stublach site spread across acres of local farmland. In partnership with Dutton Aggregates, we are aiming to ensure our works at Stublach are consistent with our environmental goals.

Throughout late 2009 and 2010, Dutton Contractors Ltd have continued to provide extensive support to the ongoing construction of the facility, conducting a wide variety of civils construction, maintenance and repair tasks. These include: 

Parkgate Road Chester Underground Network Refurbishment

Dutton Contractors Ltd recently acted as the Principle Contractor on behalf of Carillion PLC, undertaking the laying of approximately 750m of underground HV cabling and all associated tasks. Dutton Contractors Ltd employed authorised staff to excavate, lay and joint all cables, and reinstate tracks in footways and carriageways, whilst operating under restricted working hours. The project was delivered to schedule and on budget.
